Lobbying is a central part of a democratic society. Companies, organizations, and other actors participate in decision-making by bringing forward their expertise and perspectives. For this interaction to remain open and trustworthy, lobbying must be based on clear ethical principles and transparent practices.
The recommendations for good lobbying practices, developed by the Transparency Register Advisory Board, promote a strong culture of responsible advocacy. These recommendations operate on the principle of self-regulation and encourage all those engaged in lobbying to adopt responsible practices.
The principles of good lobbying practice are as follows:
- We respect the democratic decision-making process.
- We act honestly and with respect for others.
- We publicly disclose whom we represent and which interests we promote.
- We are transparent about our affiliations.
- We respect confidentiality.
- We follow the rules on hospitality.
At Mailand, we are committed to following these principles of good lobbying practice and to openly communicating the foundations of our advocacy work. When advocacy information is made transparent, trust is built – and trust is the foundation of effective and functioning societal dialogue.
