Laatukeskus: Making your voice heard through advocacy communications

Mailand has served as Laatukeskus’ comprehensive communications partner and advocacy communications coach from 2013 to 2021.

Task

Laatukeskus, a Finnish advocate for quality and a provider of training and coaching services, brings together nearly 500 member organizations as well as thousands of quality professionals and influencers across Finland. The organization sought support in sparking active public discussion on the importance of quality and development work, and in elevating their role as key drivers of organizational competitiveness.

Solution

Our long-term communications partnership can be summarized as strengthening Laatukeskus’ in-house communications capabilities while acting as an amplifier for its voice. We have gathered insights from the organization’s own experts as well as its members and clients, and refined them into impactful communications content.

We have helped build connections with media, educational institutions, and national decision-makers. Together with the CEO, we have prepared and executed statements on key societal topics, such as the quality of social and healthcare services.

We have also expanded the organization’s reach by training experts to become active voices on Twitter and LinkedIn. In addition, we have supported ongoing communications by producing press releases and news content on Laatukeskus’ events and competitions.

How did we succeed?

With Mailand’s support, Laatukeskus has successfully initiated significant media discussions, including on the underperformance of Finnish organizations in international quality benchmarks.

To encourage Finnish organizations to invest more in development and innovation, we co-developed the idea of a “Lean voucher,” similar to the popular innovation voucher. This concept was presented to members of Parliament, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, Business Finland, and employer organizations.
